biomass production, natural resources use efficiency
I am interested in cooperation with the "FACCE SURPLUS Call on Small Scale Biorefineries".
We offer assessment of Biomass productivity using remote sensing and modelling techniques. We also comparison of natural resources efficiency in terms of water productivity, water footprint, (soil) carbon sequestration, nutrient use efficiency, GHG emissions and land use. We have facilities for Big Data storage.
We look forward to team up with organisations interested in bio-refineries.
VITO, the Flemish institute for technological research, provides high level services, multi-disciplinary assistance and applied research in the fields of environment, energy and materials. The Remote Sensing Unit focuses on monitoring and modelling by means of earth observation to include both airborne and space borne image processing for environment, vegetation and agriculture monitoring at different resolutions; and, the development of new remote sensing systems, data platforms and instruments for sustainable agricultural intensification. The application team has relevant expertise in agriculture and environment combining field observations, large statistical databases with earth observation and model output in web based services and decision support systems. The team delivers a timely and high quality service to the EC-JRC and is active in the global component of the European Copernicus initiative. Food security projects are implemented with FAO, WFP and various regional and national institutes in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Projects are typically financed by JRC, the EC Framework Programmes, ESA and the Belgian Science Policy Office.
